Wix is an industry leader in the church website building market, largely due to its powerful drag-and-drop editor that allows creating unique landing pages. It also offers over 500 attractive templates – and many of them will be perfect for churches. And a lot of other things, too – it didn’t become our best website builder without a reason.

Although Wix is very easy to use, with its intuitive builder and simple drag-and-drop functionality, the sheer number of features and options available can be overwhelming for some people.

However, this church website builder has a solution even for complete beginners as well – Wix ADI (Artificial Design Intelligence).

Despite providing a similar interface to the original Wix Editor – ADI manages to simplify the website creation process to the point that even a first-timer could figure out how to build a church website in a span of a few hours.

Wix ADI

The setup process with Wix ADI takes only a few moments – you will be asked a few questions regarding your website and design.

Starting Up with Wix ADI

After the questionnaire is completed, you’re redirected to pick from 3 templates that were auto-generated according to your answers.

Auto-generated church website templates in Wix ADI

However, the beginner-friendliness that this option offers has its own drawbacks too. The most common issue would be the limited customization of your template and design.

For those who want more than a limited yet streamlined design experience for your church website – there’s Wix Editor – the drag-and-drop interface where you can place any element anywhere on your site.

The different elements that you can add to your site are presented in an easy-access panel on the left-hand side of the editor. Fine-tuning is done via the panel on the right-hand side, and you can switch between pages using the tabs at the top.

Left-Hand Side Menu on WIx

When you click on a particular element you will be able to position it with pixel-perfect precision, specify an exact size, and customize everything from color to border width

Wix Editor

To start with Wix Editor you just have to pick a template from Wix’s library to use it as a base for your website. However, it’s important to know that after publishing your website – you do not have the possibility to change that template without losing your content.

Although, both the number and quality of the templates that Wix offers won’t leave you disappointed. In my opinion, Wix is the best website builder for churches considering design only.

With over 500 high-quality templates to choose from, you will definitely be able to find a decent one for your new church website. There are even some that have been designed specifically for churches.

Church website templates on Wix

Most of the church-specific themes include built-in donation buttons, which most would find handy. However, it’s super easy to add donation functionality if you do decide to start with a design that doesn’t include it.

Adding a donate button in Wix Editor

At the same time, Wix makes it simple to upload both videos and podcasts. The higher-end plans let you upload hours of moving picture content directly to your site – great for featured videos – while all plans let you embed unlimited videos from sites like YouTube or Vimeo.

Adding podcasts is just as easy. The Wix App Market includes a few options for adding and managing podcasts, including the free Wix Podcast Player

Wix apps for podcast

Similarly, the App Market also gives you plenty of event management and promotion options. My personal favorite is the Wix Events app, which makes it super easy to manage events of all sizes.

Wix Events App

It offers easy social media integration, ticket sales, and guest list management.

Finally, the Wix dashboard makes it very easy to manage your site. It even goes as far as letting you add a small store and booking services if your church needs them.

Wix dashboard

Wix also offers decent customer support and documentation. Since it’s one of the largest website builders on the market, there are plenty of tutorials and other information available online.

Wix Pricing

Wix isn’t the most affordable option on this list of the best website builders for churches, but it certainly isn’t the most expensive either. There is a Free Forever plan for churches with a very limited budget, but this includes a Wix subdomain and their own advertising on your church website.

On the other hand, standard paid subscriptions start from $13/month for the simple Combo plan and range to $39/month for the VIP plan. There are also a few eCommerce and business plans available, ranging from $23/month to $500/month

Wix Pricing for a church website

However, most churches should be able to get away with one of the lower-end plans. The Pro plan offers great value for money and would be my choice for medium to large church websites.

Wix Church Website Example

I had a quick look at a few existing church websites that have been built with Wix, and they didn’t disappoint. The First United Methodist Church of Colleyville website is a great example of a site with loads of features and quite complicated functionality.

Wix Church Website Example

On the other hand, the Hope Community Church website is much simpler, but no less pleasing on the design front.

Wix Church Website Example

Overall, the church websites that I’ve seen built with Wix really impressed me – cementing Wix’s place on this list.

Wix really is a great all-round church website builder. It offers great customization potential, is quite easy to use, and comes with all the features that you need to build an attractive and functional church website.

Pros

  • Super customizable.
  • Very feature-rich.
  • Beautiful templates are available.

Cons

  • Higher-end plans start to get expensive.
  • Wix Editor might be confusing for first-timers.

GoDaddy Website Builder is a relatively new software from GoDaddy – an industry leader when it comes to premium web hosting. Aimed at people with little to no web development experience, it’s one of my favorites for building websites for churches.

The first thing that you will see when you head to the GoDaddy Website Builder landing page is the bold claim that you can “build a better website in under an hour”.

I can nor agree nor deny this claim as the time someone would spend building their church website depends on many factors. However, I can assure you that this church website builder provides the most streamlined website creating process I’ve encountered.

GoDaddy Website Builder Landing Page

GoDaddy Website Builder made it onto this list for many reasons – it provides powerful website building and editing services that are simple and intuitive. It requires no coding or development experience, and it offers feature-rich plans at quite affordable prices.

If you want your church website to rank well on Google, then GoDaddy Website Builder is a great choice. With a reputation for SEO (Search Engine Optimization) excellence, it provides a range of tools to help you optimize your site.

GoDaddy Website Builder SEO Features

I particularly like the fact that GoDaddy Website Builder lets you edit your website from your phone or tablet. This feature is particularly useful for churches who regularly add new content or update their pages.

When it comes to adding podcasts, videos, and other content to your site, GoDaddy Website Builder does seem to make it a little difficult.

Adding videos is easy if you’re happy to embed them from somewhere like YouTube, but there don’t seem to be any special features to upload podcasts directly to your site.

It’s worth keeping this in mind if your church produces regular podcasts. The only solution I find fit – uploading your podcast first to a different platform that integrates with this website builder and then embedding that video.

However, GoDaddy more than makes up for these small drawbacks. Signing up for an account and starting to build your site is super easy, and you’ll be able to choose from 18 templates designed specifically for churches

GoDaddy Church Website Templates

Although, GoDaddy Website Builder’s customization itself is somewhat limited. It doesn’t offer drag-and-drop functionality but instead only lets you position elements in pre-coded positions. This won’t be a problem for most people who want to build a simple church website, but it’s better to be aware of it.

On the other hand, it’s very easy to personalize most of your site’s elements. You can add and remove content with the click of a button while changing fonts, color schemes, backgrounds, and more takes seconds.

GoDaddy Site Editor

Although it does fall down a little on the customization front, the GoDaddy Website Builder is very easy to use, making it arguably the best church website builder for beginners

GoDaddy Website Builder Pricing

Unlike some of the providers on this list, GoDaddy Website Builder doesn’t offer a Free Forever plan, but it does let you get started with a one-month free trial.

This is very useful for people who want to explore a few of the best church website builders before settling on one.

GoDaddy website builder pricing

If you do decide to upgrade to a paid plan, they are competitively priced. The cheapest subscription, the Basic plan, costs just $10/month. Prices increase to the highest end with the Ecommerce plan, which comes in at just $25/month with full eCommerce functionality.

The Basic subscription includes the most basic features – including the ability to receive donations via PayPal. The higher-end plans include more advanced features, and only the Ecommerce plan lets you integrate eCommerce.

GoDaddy Example Church Websites

I had a quick look around the web to see if I could find a few examples of church websites built with GoDaddy Website Builder. I didn’t find a lot, but the Wilkesboro St. Paul’s Episcopal Church one did stand out from the few that were out there.

GoDaddy Church Website Example

If we take all of GoDaddy Website Builder’s pros and cons into account, it does come out as one of the best church website builders available. It is a little limited on some fronts – such as customization and the ability to add certain types of content – but the GoDaddy site builder’s simplicity and affordability really stand out to me.

Pros

  • Simple website builder.
  • Beautiful, church-specific themes.
  • Relatively affordable.

Cons

  • Limited design features.
  • No free plan.

SITE123 is one of the best church website builders for people who want to create a website under a few hours without having to invest time to learn the interface. Beginner-friendliness and affordable pricing are the key features that got this site builder on this list of the best website builders for churches.

To begin with, I was quite surprised by the number of features that SITE123 offers. Some of them – such as the ability to build an eCommerce store – are only available with paid subscriptions, however, a lot of them come with the free plan.

Importantly, all websites built with SITE123 are fully mobile optimized and responsive, which means that they will both work well and look great on any device.

SITE123-Mobile-Responsive-Church-Website-Templates

At the same time, SEO is made easy with a range of tools to help your church rank well with Google.

SITE123 SEO settings

One of the things I love about SITE123 is that it lets you make multi-language websites in just seconds. A lot of churches have members from different backgrounds, and creating different language versions of your site will help you reach more people.

SITE123 Language Settings

However, it’s important to know that this feature only comes when you pick a premium subscription.

On a brighter note, SITE123 also makes it super easy for churches to manage events. You will be able to create a shareable event schedule, promote your events on social media, and even sell tickets online if you need to.

If you need increased functionality for some reason, the SITE123 App Market offers a wide range of apps and extensions.

SITE123 App Market

For example, a lot of churches will want to add a donate button to their website. With SITE123, all you will need to do is install a plugin like Donate.ly to help you streamline the process. It’s worth noting that plugins are only available with paid subscriptions.

SITE123 donate.ly app

When it comes to design, SITE123 offers a wide range of templates and themes that are great for churches. To me, visual appeal is one of the key things to look for when choosing a decent church website builder, and SITE123 doesn’t let down its users with its modern yet simple designs.

Free Church Website Templates in SITE123

Signing up for an account is very easy and won’t take you more than a couple of minutes.

SITE123 setup process for church websites

At this point, SITE123 will let you customize your design – for free. You won’t be asked to provide any payment details until you decide to upgrade to a premium plan.

Design customization is made easy with the SITE123 website builder. Although it doesn’t provide true drag-and-drop functionality, it does let you change almost everything else. Most editing features are readily available via the sidebar on the left of the SITE123 interface.

SITE123 Site Editor

Unfortunately, what you see is what you get – there are no options to fine-tune your site by editing your code.

SITE123 Pricing

SITE123 does offer a great Free Forever plan that is perfect for simple church websites. However, this plan is a little limited in terms of the features it offers and doesn’t let you connect a custom domain.

What’s worse is that your subdomain won’t look like a typical free subdomain that goes yourchurchname.site123.com – it will end up being just a random gibberish of letters and words added together.

SITE123 free subdomain
And that’s nowhere near professional, isn’t it?

On the other hand, SITE123’s paid plans are a great option for churches that want to build a larger website with better functionality. Starting at $12.80/month for the most basic subscription, prices increase to $34.80/month for full functionality.

SITE123 Pricing

However, it’s worth noting that SITE123 does provide some great introductory deals, with discounts of up to 40% available at the time of writing. So, it’s a common thing that prices may wary and you can get these subscriptions for cheaper.

In sum, SITE123 is arguably the best free website builder for churches. It also offers competitively-priced paid plans, with a range of useful features to help you spread your message to the masses.

Pros

  • Fast and easy to use.
  • Simple design interface.
  • Range of attractive templates.

Cons

  • No ability to edit code.
  • Limited customizability.
  • Difficult to build scalable or complex websites.

VISIT SITE

Not to be confused with the open-source software WordPress.org, WordPress.com offers a functional website builder and a range of fully hosted and managed subscriptions. WordPress makes it easy to add custom themes to your church website, allowing you to easily create a site that stands out from the crowd.

However, the WordPress website builder is quite limited. It isn’t a drag-and-drop builder, and it only offers basic customization. Nevertheless, this shouldn’t matter too much for most church websites – as long as you start with a good theme.

Luckily, WordPress.com makes up for its weak editor by offering a great range of themes. If it didn’t it wouldn’t have made it onto this list of the best website builders for churches.

WordPress.com template library

You will be able to choose from almost 300 professionally designed themes on the WordPress.com platform. However, you can also import custom themes, and there are numerous developers out there who will help you design and build the right theme for your website.

WordPress.com also includes some great features for church websites. Since it started as a blogging platform, it tends to focus on SEO and social media integration.

WordPress.com features for church websites

In my experience, these are both extremely valuable for church websites. Being able to get found will help boost your popularity, and should result in more people flocking through your doors.

Another major upside of WordPress.com is that there are plenty of plugins available. If there’s a feature that you want to include on your church website – like the ability to receive donations or share podcasts – you will be able to find a plugin to help you do it.

WordPress.com Plugins and Integrations

WordPress.com has also retained a lot of its blogging features, which will be very useful for some churches. It is, without a doubt, the best website builder for churches that plan to focus on writing posts for their community.

WordPress.com Pricing

Like most other major church website builders, WordPress.com offers a basic Free Forever plan. This plan includes most standard features, but you will be stuck with a WordPress subdomain and advertising.

To get rid of these and unlock more features, you will need to upgrade to a paid plan. With prices starting at just $4/month – WordPress.com is one of the more affordable website builders on the market.

However, if you want your church site to offer eCommerce features you will need to upgrade to the eCommerce plan, which starts at $45/month and, in my opinion, isn’t worth such amount of money.

WordPress.com pricing

WordPress.com is certainly competitive on the pricing front, especially with its lower end plans. Although, it’s important to know that the integrations and plugins (which makes WordPress a popular choice among many users) require subscribing to at least the Business plan.

WordPress.com Church Website Examples

After I finished playing with the website builder I decided to look around and see if I could find any examples of great church websites created with WordPress.com. I wasn’t disappointed.

The first site I came across was the Southern Lights Church website. With a smooth design and great layout, it really stood out.

WordPress.com church website example

I also loved the look of the Bethany Bible Church website.

WordPress.com Church Website Example

Both of these sites were built with the Divi theme, so it seems that this might be a good place to start when building a church website.

Although WordPress.com doesn’t provide the best website builder, it’s still a great choice for people who want to build a custom church website based on a pre-designed theme. Base subscriptions are affordable, and there are plenty of plugins available to help you add functionality to your website.

Pros

  • Large plugin library.
  • Ability to add custom themes.
  • Affordable low-end plans.

Cons

  • Limited customization.
  • Ecommerce plan is expensive.

Mission is a website builder that has been designed specifically for churches. It contains more church-specific features than almost any other builder out there and therefore made its place on the list of best church website builders because of this.

Mission Homepage

However, I’ll be honest – if I was aiming for a basic church website, I would skip on using this website builder. Not that this website builder is lacking, it’s just too expensive for the most basic church websites.

After all, Mission offers only one pricing tier which ends up costing $47/month. In my opinion, that’s definitely not worth it. Let me explain to you why.

First of all, the Mission church website builder is built on WordPress.org (the popular and free open-source CMS) so customization automatically becomes quite limited.

You can only drag-and-drop basic elements to pre-destined locations due to site editor having a grid layout on your website.

Mission Site Editor

Yeah, it’s easy to use, however, the limitations definitely ruin the site editing experience for me and therefore aren’t worth $47 a month.

I think one of the best things that come with this church website builder is its beginner-friendly setup. Signing up for an account actually took less than 60 seconds, and I was onto the next step before I knew it.

Starting a website with Mission

You will automatically be granted access to a 14-day free trial, and you won’t be asked to provide any payment information until this 14-day period is over.

Once you’ve created a site you will be taken to your dashboard, where you can start to add content and customize your design.

Mission offers very specific features that are designed to help churches build the best websites possible. Its drag-and-drop builder is quite limited but functional nonetheless.

Mission Features

While it doesn’t let you position elements exactly where you want – as the number one church website builder on this list does – it is comparable to many website builders out there.

You will have access only to a few templates to help you get your site started. They aren’t anything special in my eyes. But again, they are comparable to the templates offered by most other church website builders.

Mission Church Website Templates

However, Mission still has some features to benefit your church website. For example, it lets you add videos directly to your site. Alternatively, you can embed videos from a file-hosting site like YouTube. You can even add third-party apps if there’s a need to.

As a church-specific website builder Mission includes a range of marketing tools to encourage people to visit your website.

I loved its SEO toolkit, which color-codes every page and tells you what you’re doing well and what needs improving. There’s also Google Analytics integration available which provides you with your website’s performance metrics.

Mission SEO settings and marketing

Once you’ve got the basics of your website finished, Mission lets you start adding extra features. One of these is its Sermon Manager. It provides a clear interface that lets you upload, organize, and share sermons in both audio and video form.

Sermon Manager in Mission

You can also share message notes and other files related to each sermon

Similarly, Mission makes it very easy to add a donations button to your website – something that’s a must for most churches.

Everything is managed from the comfort of the Mission dashboard. The intuitive interface lets you add new files, edit your design, and monitor your visitor statistics, among other things.

Mission dashboard

The Mission dashboard also provides fast access to the website builder. Full documentation is available to help you get started if you don’t have a lot of web development experience.

Mission Pricing

Unfortunately, Mission falls down on the pricing front. It only seems to offer one plan, which comes in at a huge $47.00/month. This is excessive compared to the prices offered by all of the other church website builders that we’ve looked at.

Mission Pricing

If you have a decent budget then you might be happy to pay for the Mission website builder. But, the high subscription price will scare a lot of people away.

In my eyes, Mission is a great christian website builder for building attractive church sites – apart from the price. If you can overlook this, then Mission provides a range of great features, an easy-to-use builder, and a great sermon manager.

Pros

  • Church-specific features.
  • Sermon manager.
  • 14-day free trial available.

Cons

  • Very expensive.
  • Full customization is limited.

Final WordsBest Website Builders For Churches – Summary

In this article, I’ve covered the five best website builders for churches. I’ve explained why each option is attractive, why you should consider them, and what sort of church-specific features each offers. Really, choosing the right website builder for your church should be an easy task now.

Wix is an extremely versatile website builder that is based on highly customizable designs. With a true drag-and-drop editor and a range of useful features, Wix is a great choice for any kind of churches – be it a basic landing page or a large community website.

GoDaddy Website Builder is a recent spin-off from hosting provider GoDaddy, but it certainly holds its own as one of the best church website builders. Although it is super easy to use, some people might find it a little limited.

SITE123 is quite similar to GoDaddy Website Builder in the sense that it lets you create simple websites fast. It is relatively affordable and offers a great free plan that small churches can take advantage of.

WordPress.com made its name as a blogging platform and it remains an industry leader. It offers the most affordable entry-level plan on this list and offers tons. of church-related themes to choose from.

In my opinion, Mission is one of the best church-specific website builders at the moment if you look past the price. It offers a range of great features that are targeted at church websites – including a sermon manager – but its price will be too high for a lot of people.

In the end, it’s important to remember, most builders offer a free trial or a free forever plan so that you can explore their features before committing to a premium subscription. However, limited plans make unprofessional websites so I’d opt for a premium plan afterward.

Best Website Builders For Churches – Recap

  1. Wix – Best overall church website builder for its design flexibility.
  2. GoDaddy Website Builder – Best church website builder for ease of use.
  3. SITE123 – Best for simple church websites.
  4. WordPress.com – Best for churches that blog a lot.
  5. Mission – Great church-specific features.
