Choosing The Best Mobile Website Builder – Edit Your Site On The Go!

In this post, I’m going to list down the best mobile website builders as well as review their features so you can easily pick your favorite.

Mobile is king. You have a smartphone – and your visitors have smartphones, too.

So it only makes sense to make a website that is not only perfectly optimized to handle traffic – but the one that can be built and edited using your mobile device!

In order to find the best mobile website builder that ticks these boxes, I tested a range of industry-leading providers.

I looked at how their websites performed on mobile devices, which features are accessible via mobile, and how beginner-friendly their mobile editing interfaces really are.

Following this, I came up with this list of the best website builders to use on a mobile device.

With its highly customizable drag-and-drop editor, Wix is arguably the world’s most powerful website builder – after all, it came #1 in our highly-competitive best website builder test! It also comes with a great mobile editing interface that allows users to edit their websites on the go.

Sure, Wix’s mobile-friendly website builder doesn’t contain as many advanced editing features as its desktop version – but it remains powerful enough to deal with all of the daily tasks.

On top of this, its mobile interface is tidy and easy to navigate.

wix homepage

When I started exploring the Wix mobile website builder I was interested to see if I could build an entire site without using the desktop version. As it turns out, I could.

Signing up for a new Wix site was almost easier through the mobile browser than the desktop. Essentially, the process was the same and required answers to a simple questionnaire.

creating a website in wix

This questionnaire asked for information about the type of website I wanted, what I planned on using it for, and what sort of theme I wanted to use.

Once I’d worked through the questionnaire, I was taken to the editor itself. And to be honest, I was very impressed by how tidy Wix’s mobile editing interface is. It’s based on a simple menu at the bottom of the screen that lets you manage your theme and your site’s pages.

wix mobile site editor

Adding and managing sections of your site is done through the “manage sections” button, and content can be edited and updated by simply tapping on the element you want to modify.

wix mobile site editor layouts

This allows you to add and remove images, edit text, and change the layout of your pages.

Ultimately, Wix offers what is arguably the best free mobile website builder on the market. To me, it’s very similar to the Wix ADI editor that’s accessible via desktop browsers.

Wix mobile management

One thing that’s important to note is that the Wix mobile website builder doesn’t include a lot of management features. It basically allows you to edit your site and access your inbox.

wix mobile backend

If you want to be able to manage your website fully from your mobile device you will have to use the Wix mobile app. It’s available for free, and it gives you access to a full management dashboard.

wix mobile site dashboard

I have to admit that I do like using the Wix app. It allows me to look after my personal websites while I’m traveling or commuting to and from the office.

Wix Pricing

Wix offers one of the best selections of website builder subscriptions on the market. It allows you to choose from eight different plans, with prices ranging from $13/month to $500/month. It also has a great Free Forever plan that won’t ever cost you a cent.

Four of Wix’s plans are dedicated to standard website building. They include the Combo ($13/month), Unlimited ($17/month), Pro ($22/month), and VIP ($39/month) subscriptions.

Each of these plans comes with more advanced tools and features than the last, so it’s worth doing your research to determine which is more suited to your needs.

Wix also offers four dedicated business and eCommerce subscriptions. The Business Basic ($23/month), Business Unlimited ($27/month), and Business VIP ($49/month) plans offer standard eCommerce features that are powerful enough for all but the largest online stores.

Finally, Wix’s Enterprise plan costs $500/month and comes with custom eCommerce solutions for enterprise-level clients.

All things considered, Wix’s prices are fair. I particularly like the fact that it offers a free forever plan. I’d recommend trying it out because I think you’ll find that it makes Wix one of the best mobile website builders available.

Pros

  • Clean mobile editor.
  • Great management app.
  • Beginner-friendly mobile editing interface.

Cons

  • Mobile editing is somewhat limited compared to desktop editing.

Squarespace is known for its attractive, professionally designed website templates. Although it doesn’t offer the best customizability, its mobile website builder is a popular choice among those who want to focus on their site’s appearance and design features.

squarespace homepage mobile

Signing up for a new site with Squarespace’s mobile website builder is quite straightforward. First, you will be asked to choose a template. For me, this is where Squarespace really excels. Although it doesn’t offer the biggest range of themes available, every template it does provide is unique and very well designed.

squarespace mobile templates

Once you’ve chosen a template you will be taken to the mobile management interface, which is quite powerful, if a little confusing. The mobile dashboard allows you to access different pages, modify your site’s design, and view commerce and marketing information, among other things.

squarespace dashboard

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to actually edit your content unless you download the Squarespace app. However, the app does allow you to edit pretty much every aspect of your website – as long as you can manage to navigate it.

For me, the Squarespace mobile app simply isn’t smooth enough to make it a viable option to build an entire website. It does offer full mobile editing capabilities, however, which means that it’s worth considering.

Ultimately, I’d recommend taking advantage of Squarespace’s two-week free trial to see if you’re comfortable using its mobile website builder.

Squarespace Pricing

Squarespace offers four website building plans that range from $12/month to $40/month with an annual subscription. It doesn’t provide any free forever plan, but it does give users access to a 14-day free trial.

Signing up for Squarespace’s Personal plan will cost you $12/month and includes a custom domain, unlimited server resources, and a free SSL security certificate. The Business plan costs $18/month and gives you access to basic eCommerce and marketing features.

Upgrading further to the Basic Commerce plan ($26/month) will unlock more online store tools, while the Advanced Commerce subscription ($40/month) will give you access to all of Squarespace’s features.

Pros

  • Professional design templates.
  • Functional mobile app.
  • Two-week free trial.

Cons

  • Very limited customizability via mobile.

GoDaddy’s mobile website builder comes with the same tools and design features as its desktop version. It allows you to create a basic website in the span of a few hours and is a great option for those who just want to create an online presence without spending too much time or money.

godaddy website builder mobile homepage

I explored GoDaddy Website Builder’s mobile builder fully when I was writing this list of best mobile website builders, and the things that really stood out were its simplicity and beginner-friendly editing interface

Some of the things that appealed to me about the GoDaddy Website Builder’s editing interface included the navigation menu at the bottom of the screen, the drop-down menu at the top of the screen, and the ability to quickly edit elements by tapping on them.

When you tap on a content block or element you are taken to a simple editing page which allows you to make changes as needed.

Ultimately, I loved the GoDaddy’s mobile website builder. It retains the intuitive interface that the desktop version is known for and allows users to build entire websites from their phone.

GoDaddy Website Builder Pricing

The GoDaddy Website Builder offers 4 different subscriptions that are similarly priced to those of other industry-leading builders. Prices range from $10/month to $25/month, but there’s no free forever plan available.

With the GoDaddy’s Website Builder, you’re essentially paying for an intuitive, beginner-friendly editing interface. Both the Basic ($10/month) and Standard ($15/month) plans offer enough features for small businesses who just want to build an online presence.

godaddy website builder pricing

Meanwhile, the Premium plan costs $20/month and is better suited to those who want access to more of GoDaddy Website Builder’s marketing tools. Finally, the eCommerce plan will cost you $25/month and allows you to add a simple online store to your website.

GoDaddy Website Builder doesn’t offer anything special on the pricing front, but it certainly isn’t too expensive either. It does come with a one-month free trial which I’d recommend taking advantage of if you want to try its mobile builder out.

Pros

  • Beginner-friendly editing interface.
  • Mobile editor allows the same customization as the desktop version.
  • One-month free trial.

Cons

  • Very simple designs.
  • Not scalable and not the best for large websites.

Jimdo is quite a powerful website builder that offers complete mobile editing solutions. It allows web development beginners to build a website fast and efficiently, even if they don’t have any experience.

jimdo homepage on mobile

One of my favorite things about the Jimdo website builder is how straightforward the sign-up process is. You can get started by tapping the “create a new website” button. Following this, Jimdo will guide you through an in-depth questionnaire that asks you a range of questions about the type of website you want.

jimdo mobile website builder questionnaire

Expect to spend about ten minutes working through this questionnaire and then you will be taken to the Jimdo mobile editor.

Before I go any further, it’s worth noting that I’m talking about the AI-based Jimdo Dolphin website builder here. Jimdo also offers a more advanced code-based editor with the Jimdo Creator, but it isn’t anywhere near as mobile-friendly.

With this in mind, I focused on the Jimdo Dolphin mobile website builder. At first glance, the editing interface appeared quite neat and intuitive. Luckily, my opinion didn’t change as I explored the tools and features that it offers.

jimdo mobile site editor

For example, to edit your content blocks with the Jimdo Dolphin mobile editor, you just need to tap on the block you want to modify and make the required changes.

If the block is image-based, you can replace or remove the image you’re using. Similarly, you can change things like the font, background color, and borders of text-based blocks.

jimdo mobile site editor

To add new content blocks, simply tap the plus symbol you’ll see between your existing blocks and choose what sort of content you want to add.

Jimdo offers a range of choice here, with everything from standard text blocks to niche-specific gallery and music player tools.

jimdo mobile site editor

All things considered, I thoroughly enjoyed using the Jimdo mobile website editor. It’s quite intuitive and beginner-friendly, and its AI design assistant is among the best I’ve used.

Jimdo Pricing

The Jimdo Dolphin website builder offers four paid subscriptions ranging from $9/month to $39/month. It also comes with a free forever Play plan which allows users to test out its features without committing financially.

If you want to build a basic website that doesn’t need a lot of fancy features, I’d recommend using the Start plan ($9/month). Upgrading to the Grow plan ($15/month) will give you access to more advanced SEO tools and visitor analytics.

Upgrading further to the eCommerce subscription will cost you $19/month and will allow you to use Jimdo’s suite of online store features. Finally, the Unlimited plan ($39/month) gives you access to professional design analysis and premium support services.

jimdo pricing

All things considered, Jimdo’s prices are quite good. I’d recommend starting with the free Play plan and upgrading if you like the mobile website building features it offers.

Pros

  • Powerful AI website builder.
  • Full editing features available on mobile.
  • Functional free-forever subscription.

Cons

  • Limited design flexibility.
  • No code access with Jimdo Dolphin.

Weebly is another of the largest website builders available. Although it has traditionally been a standard website builder, its focus has switched to eCommerce and online store building over the past few years. Weebly offers a functional, although sometimes slightly confusing mobile builder

weebly homepage

Starting a new website with the Weebly mobile website builder is quite straightforward. Unlike the builders I’ve covered already, Weebly actually uses a mobile app, rather than a native builder in your mobile browser.

Personally, I liked this. It makes it a lot simpler to keep track of what I’m doing, and everything I need to edit my website is in one easy-to-access location.

weebly mobile interface

In order to test the Weebly app out properly, I started a new website from scratch. This process was easy, but the builder itself really didn’t live up to my expectations.

It was confusing, messy looking, and clunky. Although the menu at the top of the page is quite intuitive, actually making edits and building your website is rather difficult.

weebly mobile site editor

However, the Weebly mobile app would be useful if you already have a Weebly website that you want to edit and keep up to date over time. There’s nothing wrong with it if you just want to add new text or tweak your design a little bit.

Weebly Pricing

Although it isn’t the cheapest mobile website builder available, Weebly offers quite competitive prices. Along with a great Free Forever plan, it has four paid subscriptions that range from $6/month to $26/month

Although Weebly’s Free Forever plan is a good option for those who just want to try things out, it’s quite limited. It doesn’t allow you to connect a custom domain, and it comes with Weebly advertising.

If you do want to connect a custom domain, you will have to upgrade to the Connect plan ($6/month). Alternatively, the Pro plan ($12/month) also allows you to accept online payments and provides access to advanced analytics.

weebly pricing

If you want to upgrade further to a dedicated eCommerce subscription, the Performance plan will cost you $26/month and will give you access to Weebly’s suite of eCommerce features.

All things considered, Weebly’s prices are quite competitive. I’d recommend taking advantage of its free forever plan to test out the mobile website builder before committing to a paid plan.

Pros

  • App-based mobile website builder.
  • Great free forever plan.
  • Strong eCommerce features.

Cons

  • Messy mobile store builder.
  • Lack of design flexibility.

Final WordsBest Mobile Website Builders – Summary

Choosing the best mobile website builder shouldn’t be too difficult after you’ve taken a look into this list. In this article, I have explored the best five mobile builders available.

Wix’s mobile website builder doesn’t offer the same design flexibility as its desktop builder, but it’s still quite powerful. On top of this, it’s very intuitive and beginner-friendly, with a clean editing interface and logical navigation menus.

GoDaddy Website Builder is one of the best mobile builders for those who just want to get online quickly without investing a lot of time or money.

Similarly, Jimdo’s AI mobile design tool makes it a good choice for those without any web development skills.

Finally, Weebly and Squarespace are the two best mobile website builders when it comes to attractive, professionally designed themes. Although neither of them offers the most intuitive mobile editing interface, their positives certainly outweigh their negatives.

As you can see, there are plenty of options out there for those who want to build and/or manage a website via their mobile device.

Ultimately, the best mobile website builder for your needs will depend on your situation and the type of website you want to create. So, here’s a short recap list of providers that should be right up your alley.
