With the advanced customizability and the real estate themes as well as plugins it offers, Wix is perhaps the best real estate website builder out there. While not specifically marketing itself to the niche, it is powerful enough to replace a designer-made website – and it’s certainly one of the best real estate websites for agents.
Wix offers more than 500 themes. That’s a lot. And they’re beautiful, too – enough to make them the star in our review of the best website builders. But even when locking in and thinking about real estate only, Wix has a lot to pick from.
You’ll find a total of 16 themes designed specifically for realtors (at the time of writing – check them out now, they may have more!).
Upon closer inspection, Wix’s real estate themes look legit – professional and ready to have your logo on the top left corner.
The only downside to Wix in this regard is that you can’t change your theme once you’ve started designing your website. So, if you’ll wish to give your website a makeover, you’ll have to use its editor. Luckily – it’s pretty powerful.
Put simply, the Wix editor is one of the best I’ve seen from any website builder. It’s both incredibly flexible, allowing you to do pretty much anything, and fairly easy to master – meaning even a person with no website development knowledge could do it.
You can pile content elements on top of each other and place them anywhere you want on the page. You can also resize content freely, so it’s easy to make custom galleries by hand or arrange text and images together.
There are hundreds of different elements you can add to improve your site, so you have a huge number of options for customization.
Galleries, slideshows, and strips are all useful – and available at any moment.
However, it’s worth noting that setting up an advanced website with Wix does take quite a while. There are no site-wide settings in Wix, so if you want to change fonts or color palettes you’ll need to make the changes on every page of your site.
In addition, the sheer number of content elements available and the freedom of being able to place content anywhere can lead to some decision paralysis. Overall, Wix editor is a great blessing that comes included with a small curse.
You can go a long way towards displaying properties and attracting new clients just with Wix’s built-in content elements. But this website builder has a few extra real estate-specific tools that will make things much easier.
Perhaps the most important of these is the ability to make bookings directly through your Wix website. Wix’s bookings function gives you and website visitors access to a calendar, so they can see what days and times you have available for a house showing. Additionally, you can block out times when a particular property isn’t available to be seen. On the backend, you can see all of your scheduled showings in a single place.
Even better, Wix’s booking tool can let you manage the schedules of multiple realtors. If you run an agency, this is a major help. When a client requests a booking, you can assign it to one of your agents through the Wix backend. That way, it’s easy to manage multiple peoples’ schedules and make sure that each agent is responsible for all the showings at a single property.
Realtors will also appreciate that the Wix app marketplace has several offerings specifically designed for real estate. For example, the Simple Real Estate app gives you the ability to manage property details in a dedicated database framework. While you can achieve the same thing using Wix’s content elements, this tool makes it much simpler to keep track of property details, especially if you have more than couple going on at the same time.
Wix also excels at customer management, giving you the tools you need to keep in touch with past clients and attract new business prospects. Ascend by Wix is a full-fledged customer management software suite.
To start, you can easily connect your email to your Wix website and send and receive emails through your site. Wix automatically keeps track of contact information for clients who have made bookings through your site, so you can get in touch with them later. Plus, you can add a chatbox to your site to answer questions in real-time.
I also really liked Wix’s automation features. This makes it easy to automatically send follow-up emails to visitors who looked at a property on your site. Alternatively, you can use Wix’s automated emails to remind clients of an upcoming property showing that they booked with you.
Wix isn’t cheap, particularly if you want to take advantage of many of the business features that realtors need. eCommerce plans start at $23 per month and give you access to Wix’s booking and marketing features.
If you just want to display properties and don’t need these advanced tools, non-eCommerce Wix plans start at $13/month. However, Wix limits your website to 3 GB of storage and 2 GB of bandwidth. So, if you are displaying high-resolution images of many properties, you’ll likely need to upgrade to a $17 per month ‘Unlimited’ plan for additional storage and unlimited bandwidth.
The first impression is the most important one – this is why Squarespace, with its beautiful templates and top-notch image galleries, could potentially be home for some of the best real estate agent websites.
On top of that, the Squarespace builder is user-friendly and very versatile, allowing you to integrate a booking platform right into your site – and get right into work.
Squarespace boasts some of the most eye-catching templates of any website builder. However, there are some things worth paying attention to. While there are about 70 themes in all, unfortunately only two of them are designed with real estate agents in mind. However, booking and real estate listing options are available for all templates, and design-wise, there’s a lot of overlap between the real estate and photography themes. So while you should be wary of the lack of templates – it’s certainly not a dealbreaker.
And with that out of the way…What about those templates, huh?
As it is the rule with most Squarespace templates – they put images first. The two real estate templates feature full-page background images, which you can use to show off your most beautiful properties. The theme layouts are modern and clean, and do a great job of inviting visitors to explore your site more deeply.
Note that while you can change between Squarespace themes at any time, you’ll lose a lot of your customizations in the process. So, ideally, you’ll stick with the theme you choose from the beginning – and use an editor to customize it instead.
Squarespace is a true drag-and-drop website builder, which makes it relatively easy to design a great-looking site. In contrast to the more free website builders, you can’t put your content just anywhere. Instead, you’re limited to a grid layout across all your pages.
While this can be frustrating at times, it makes the process of designing a cohesive, beautiful site much simpler.
The thing that really helps Squarespace stand out as one of the best realtor website builder picks is the platform’s image galleries. Squarespace’s galleries are nothing short of breathtaking. Plus, there is a wealth of options for displaying your property images.
For example, Squarespace allows you to go way beyond simple grids of images by giving you advanced slideshows and lightboxes. You can even choose to add text to any image, which is perfect for calling out the details you want clients to know about.
Another nice feature of Squarespace is the site-wide customization editor. By putting your style options all in one place, it’s really easy to ensure that your site looks cohesive across your pages. The options are very extensive, so you can customize even the most minor details – for example, how much padding you want between images.
Squarespace also has tools that will be useful for realtors. First and foremost, the platform offers integration with Acuity Scheduling so clients can book property tours right on your website. If you already work with another scheduling app, Squarespace also makes it easy to embed a widget using custom code anywhere on your website.
You can also allow clients to search for listings through IDX on your website. Squarespace doesn’t have a built-in content element for this, but the platform offers extensive support for adding the custom code needed to integrate IDX. Overall, it should be pretty simple to do for nearly everyone, and if not – there’s extensive customer support available in order to fix this problem.
Squarespace also offers a number of tools to help you get in contact with our existing and potential customers. One of the main things to help you do this comes in the form of email newsletters. The Squarespace newsletter designer works just like the site editor, so you can pretty easily put together beautiful mailings that show off your current properties.
I also really liked the Squarespace sign-up blocks. It’s a very good way to gather some information from your visitors, allowing you to later keep them in the loop with updates.
In addition, you can directly interact with visitors to your website by adding a chatbox. This a great way to ensure that you’re always available to answer questions as they arise.
Unfortunately, while Squarespace has capabilities for automated emails, they’re somewhat limited. You can only send emails in response to a mailing list signup or after an online purchase. So, there’s no way to remind clients of upcoming showings or to follow up with them about a listing they looked at.
But other than that, Squarespace still has a solid array of features that will help you keep in touch with your contacts.
Squarespace is middle-of-the-road when it comes to pricing. You can set up a real estate for $12 per month, but this way, you’ll miss out on Squarespace’s features for customer management. To get those, you’ll need an $18 per month ‘Business’ plan.
Overall, Squarespace is a lovely real estate website builder for those who want a simple, attractive page with some key business features.
WordPress.com is an option that combines the popular, super-advanced content management system with a simple website builder. The result? A very versatile platform, that can be used to build pretty much any kind of page – and yes, that includes real estate websites, too.
WordPress.com offers around 300 themes, all of which are modern and stylish. Most of these themes are free. Key word – most. There are a handful of premium themes that require you to pay extra, too. So stay vigilant.
Realtors have a choice of 13 themes that are specifically designed for them. Whether you’ll like them or not, depends entirely on you. Their design is certainly less cutting-edge modern compared to many other website builders, but it’s certainly a matter of taste.
If you’re not impressed by that, the solution is simple – choose one of the photography-centric themes and modify it for use with a real estate website. Note that you can also choose themes based on the layout of your pages, which is a good way to progress if you have an idea of how you would like your website to look.
The WordPress.com editor is at the very edge of what I’d consider a drag-and-drop editor. It allows you to move content by dragging it once it’s been placed on the page, but you can’t really drop elements just anywhere. In fact, pages are quite constricted by the layout of your template.
This isn’t the worst thing in the world, especially given the wealth of templates available in WordPress.com. Additionally, I liked that you could change your template at any time and keep your content if you wanted something with a different layout.
The editor also felt a little bit clunky to me compared to other real estate website builders. For example, when editing text, some of the formatting options are in a menu bar over the text itself, while other options are in the page editor on the right-hand side of the screen. It’s not a major problem, but it does add some friction to the process of designing your website.
One thing I really liked about WordPress.com was how it handles images. Whereas a lot of website builders upload your images as a one-off,
WordPress.com keeps them in a library. That makes it much easier to categorize images to search for them later, and to re-use images for blog posts and other pages.
Plugins are at the absolute heart of what this platform can do for you. WordPress.com gives you access to a huge array of add-ons that you can use to expand the functionality of your website. There are many available to allow clients to book property showings through your site, which is a major plus for this builder.
You’ll also find realtor-specific plugins, like ones that allow you to integrate IDX search directly into your website. I really appreciated the fact that WordPress.com has plugins that allow you to add common property details for all of your listings, which makes managing multiple properties across your site much easier.
In contrast to some other app marketplaces, WordPress.com doesn’t have just one or two extensions for realtors. There are dozens, if not hundreds, to choose from – after all, with WordPress running nearly a third of the world’s websites, there’s a massive community that gives you a lot of options. So, no worries – WordPress.com has the tools you need to help your real estate business succeed.
WordPress.com doesn’t have a lot of built-in functionality for managing customers, but once again the app marketplace comes to the rescue. You’ll find a huge number of apps to help you build and maintain customer relationships, including newsletter builders and automated mailing programs.
You can also use WordPress.com plugins to add a login feature to your website. That way, you can create protected content that only specific users or site subscribers can access.
WordPress.com offers a free plan, but it’s rather limited. Most notably, you can’t add your own domain name when using WordPress.com for free.
Paid plans start at $4 per month and include a free domain name for your first year. You’ll also get 6 GB of storage, which is likely enough for most websites.
However, WordPress.com jumps sharply in price, to $25 per month, if you need a ‘Business’ plan. Unfortunately, this is where you get to access most of WordPress.com’s most attractive features, including the ability to install plugins.
A Business plan also includes tools for managing your site’s SEO and gives you a whopping 200 GB of storage to work with – so if you’re serious about your real estate website success, this is probably the one for you to pick
GoDaddy Website Builder is a simple to use solution that comes with a wide selection of good-looking themes. That makes it easy to get your website off the ground and start displaying properties to clients. And despite the simplicity, GoDaddy still offers some great advanced real estate features, such as integrations with IDX, and Zillow – a real estate database and marketplace.
In recent years, GoDaddy has really stepped it up when it comes to themes. Previously one of the platform’s main drawbacks, now it’s one of the advantages. There are 100 themes in all, 11 of them are specifically designed for real estate purposes.
What I really liked about these real estate themes is that they show off your main product: properties. Images of your listings are front and center on your website. Beyond that, the templates make it easy for visitors to navigate your website to explore more about the properties you have to offer. Overall, GoDaddy Website Builder has some solid options – you should be fine.
The GoCentral editor is relatively simplistic, which can be either good or bad depending on your perspective. On the one hand, it makes it easy to get your website customized and ready for visitors in less than an hour. On the other hand, your customization and layout options are largely restricted by your theme.
Importantly, your website’s layout is not one of the things that you can edit in this builder. So, it’s essential that you like the way your theme works for presenting the information. Luckily, if you do run into a roadblock, you can switch your theme at any time.
One of the things that bothered me most about the GoDaddy editor is the fact that you can’t create secondary pages in the site navigation. Depending on how you decide to layout your website, this may not be an issue for you. But, if you want to create navigation for properties by region, for example, not being able to create secondary menus can be a big problem.
GoDaddy Website Builder is simple – in this case, perhaps even too simple for its own good.
GoDaddy Website Builder offers a surprising range of features for realtors given how limited the builder is in the design phase. To start, the platform makes it very easy to show off your properties with beautiful galleries. I also liked that when a visitor clicks on one image in your property listing to open a lightbox, they can then scroll through all of the images for that property in the same lightbox. This is something very commonly used in the real estate business – but it might take a while to find on some other website builders.
One of the features that places GoDaddy among the best real estate website builders is the ability to add Internet Data Exchange (IDX) search to your site. This integration means that visitors can search for up-to-date information about properties in their area, without ever leaving your website. That’s a huge advantage for realtors looking to capture new business.
Realtors will also love the fact that you can easily add Zillow reviews onto your website. Given the growing popularity of Zillow, this is a great way to build trust with potential new clients. Plus, it allows you to use your real estate website to leverage your entire professional online profile.
GoDaddy’s customer management features are good, but not great. You get access to basic features like email marketing, which is helpful for things like a monthly newsletter to keep in touch with past clients. The email builder was very robust and easy to master and should be good for pretty much everyone to use.
However, the builder doesn’t have some of the advanced customer management features I’d like to see for real estate. There’s no way for customers to book showings through your website, and no way to automatically follow up with them about an upcoming showing.
GoDaddy is slightly cheaper than a lot of its competitors – but not by much. The plans start at $10 a month.
However, most realtors will want to upgrade to a ‘Standard’ plan for $15 per month. That way, you get access to SEO tools to help your website be discovered, as well as email marketing tools. Still, that’s fairly cheap, compared to most other real estate website builders.
If your real estate business is running on a tight budget, Gator offers an inexpensive solution for building your website. For under $4 per month, you get a website builder, hosting plan, and domain name. The Gator builder is somewhat limited in scope, but it still offers many features for realtors.
Gator has a solid selection of themes – and for realtors, there are 18 different ones to choose from.
Here is how one of them looks from up close:
It certainly is a matter of taste – but putting the Gator themes alongside some of those from the competitors, there’s a clear difference. Even the most design-centered Gator themes are not all that modern, and it’s rare to find a theme with a homepage that doesn’t appear cluttered.
Still, there’s a pretty solid library of options for you to pick, and also, you can also switch Gator themes at any time. So at least that one’s a positive.
The Gator editor is quite flexible, which gives you a lot of leeway to make changes to the basic themes. You can drag and drop content elements almost anywhere on your page. Plus, you have lots of options for editing text thanks to a full style bar that pops up when you click on a text box.
I particularly liked that Gator allows you to change your site-wide styles. That makes it easy and fast to create a cohesive website. In addition, the style options don’t feel limiting at all. You can choose from a wide variety of fonts, colors, and even textures for most of the major aspects of your website.
The only thing I found myself wishing for in the Gator editor was a wider variety of content elements, particularly for images. There are galleries in Gator, but no slideshows or lightboxes. That makes it a little bit difficult to make your property images really stand out, which is a big deal for a real estate website.
Still, the fact that you can place content relatively freely means that you have a lot of freedom to arrange text and images together. So, you can do a pretty good job of creating pages for individual properties that contain all of the information potential clients need to know.
Unfortunately, Gator really falls short when it comes to specific tools for realtors. This is one of the main places where the budget price of Gator starts to show
There are no options for integrating your site with realtor services like IDX or Zillow. Nor is there a way to allow clients to book a property showing through your website. Almost any actual business functions will need to be carried out through email contact with your clients. If that’s what you plan to do – good. If not – you’ll definitely run into some problems.
Gator is also relatively weak when it comes to options for managing your clients. You can create an email signup form and keep track of contacts, but that’s about it.
I was disappointed to find that although you can create mailing lists with Gator, these are mostly good for exporting to another dedicated email marketing program. Gator doesn’t have its own email marketing tools, such as a newsletter builder. Clients also can’t create logins for your website, so it can be difficult to keep them coming back over time.
Well then, what’s the main attraction of this website builder? Undoubtedly – it’s the price. For just $3.84 per month, you get the website builder along with hosting and a free domain name. That’s a shockingly good deal that limits your website expenses to less than $50 per year.
Essentially all of the features of Gator are included in that price, with the exception of eCommerce features. However, most realtors won’t need to make sales through their websites anyway – so the cheapest plan if good enough.
Placester is a website builder designed specifically for realtors. It offers everything you need to run your business: IDX integration, simple booking tools, detailed property listing templates, and advanced marketing tools. However – all of those tools may get a little bit too expensive.
At first glance, Placester seems limited on themes — there are only six options, and four of them are ‘Premium’ ones that cost extra. But, it’s worth remembering that all of Placester’s themes are built specifically for realtors and they cover all the main styles of real estate sites. So, the six choices all do an impressive job of offering the tools and layout your site needs.
The themes share a few important elements in common, particularly on your homepage. They showcase property photography with full-width background images. Plus, all of the Premium themes include an IDX search bar right on the homepage.
The Placester site editor differs from a lot of the other website builders I reviewed in that it’s really focused on features that are specific to real estate. There’s a lot less emphasis on customizing things like fonts, site colors, and other fine details.
Instead, you’ll see options for creating a blog post or adding a new listing area to your website. Having these features as simple one-click buttons, rather than requiring you to create new pages and menu items from scratch, can really streamline the process of growing your business. Helpfully, there’s also an option to add testimonials to your site to build trust with clients.
I should also point out that Placester isn’t lacking in site customization tools — they’re just a bit more hidden than in other website builders. You can still vary your fonts on an element-by-element basis or across your entire site, for example. There’s also a basic HTML editor if you really want to get into the weeds of customization.
Placester really excels in offering tools for real estate agents. After all, it’s what this website builder was created for.
To start, IDX integration is a given with every Placester website. As I mentioned, clients can search listings directly from your homepage, which reduces the friction they experience in using your website. Clients can also easily book tours through any property listing page.
Placester also puts a lot of emphasis on blogging as a way to help your website stand out and to highlight priority listings. What’s unique about Placester’s blogging platform is that you don’t even have to write posts yourself. Instead, the service has a content library of professionally written real estate posts, which you can use as they are or modify to your liking.
Helpfully, these pre-written posts also come with customization fields so that they’re tailored to your business and your local area. So, you can run a high-output blog with just a few minutes of work each week.
Not surprisingly, Placester also puts a heavy emphasis on ensuring that you retain clients. You can allow site visitors to create login identities, which can unlock specific content on your site or simply give you their information to use for newsletter mailings.
More important, Placester puts all of your lead routing in a single place. You can import your leads from Zillow, Realtor.com, Trulia, and other sites into the Plaster CRM system. From there, you can segment leads for mailings and send out sign up forms for upcoming open houses.
I will say that I didn’t love the email newsletter builder in Placester. It just doesn’t offer the same flexibility as some of the other platforms I’ve seen. But, it makes automating email contact much easier, so it’s a great tool for ensuring you have a steady drip of contact with potential property buyers and sellers.
Placester is expensive. Really expensive. Plans start at $99 per month, which is around four times more expensive than the business plans from the other premium website builders I reviewed. Plus, you’ll be hit with a setup fee, that will be at least $99.
But of course, for some, this might still be solid value, After all – you get a lot of great tools, and get to save a ton of time, as they’re already set up and ready for you. Considering your needs and budget, this might just be the best real estate website builder for you.

But the share of property owners and sellers who will access your website from something other than a computer is only growing. So, it’s important to make sure that your website will look good no matter what device it’s being viewed on. That’s going to aid your visitors and help your reputation, and that’s what the best real estate websites for agents should help you get.

That being said, they do differ in how much control you have over how your website will look on mobile devices.

Some website builders, like GoDaddy and Gator, make it easy to get a relatively simple website up and running quickly.
Others, like Squarespace and Wix, give you more control so you can fully customize your site.
One approach isn’t necessarily better than the other – it comes down to your preference and the vision you have in mind for your site. If you really enjoy the process of designing your site or need a unique layout for your content, Wix offers the most flexibility. You can place content anywhere, and use the layout tools to align, layer, and resize content as you wish.
But, this process takes a lot of time, and there’s a chance that your site will end up looking inconsistent across pages.
Squarespace and WordPress.com offer nearly as much design control but wrap a lot of features into site-wide style editors. That way, you can ensure your visitors will enjoy a visually seamless experience across your website.
If you don’t want to spend much time on your website and are okay with just making content changes to the template, check out GoDaddy Website Builder or Gator. These editors allow you to get your site running in less than an hour in many cases. Plus, while they’re more limited than Squarespace, Wix, or WordPress.com, they still have a lot of great editing features.
Beyond the editor itself, you’ll want to look for stunning galleries in whatever realtor website builder you choose. Showing off photos of your properties is a great way to attract attention, and nothing does that better than a beautiful gallery.
I particularly like Squarespace’s galleries because you can combine text and images. For example, Experience Stowe Realty used this to great effect.
It’s also worth looking at the templates on offer. Are they modern, with clean lines and good use of negative space? Do they suit the image you want your real estate company to have?
Personally, from a user perspective, I like real estate templates that include full-screen images on your homepage. In addition, giving your visitors the ability to search listings directly from your homepage, as this Placester website does, is a huge advantage.
Your website should not only be an image of your business — it should also facilitate your business and help it grow. That’s why it’s important that your website has tools to help your visitors find properties and book tours.
The way that most realtors look for properties is to search the IDX (Internet Data Exchange) database. So it only makes sense that you allow visitors to search for listings in their area and price range on your website.
Placester is arguably the best for this, since it features an IDX search prominently on your site and captures visitors’ property searches for your analytics. Wix, WordPress.com, and Squarespace also offer integrations for IDX, and depending on your template and site layout you may be able to achieve a similar effect to Placester
You also want to make sure that clients can book property tours directly through your website. Again, Placester offers some of the best tools for this, with a bookings link on every property listing page. As an example, check out Kim Spears real estate’s website.
But, Wix is also very competitive for booking tools. It features a booking calendar that can be shared across multiple realtors if you work as a team or agency.
Keep in mind that most website builders will allow you to integrate a third-party booking service as well. If you’re already using something, make sure to check out your preferred website builders and see, whether they provide integrations with that.
Finally, keep an eye out for the tools that might not see as much use, but are helpful to have. Examples of these include a mortgage calculator and internal website search function. This is where having something like WordPress.com’s plugin library can be a major advantage.

Of course, none of the features above matter if people can’t find your website. So, features for SEO and social media integration are absolutely essential for building the best real estate agent websites.
